Bowling Along

 It was our Monday All Day session this week, and the project was Fabric Bowls.

We have made these ages ago, so there were some of our newer members that wanted to have a go.

We had a selection of patterns to choose from, but the most popular was the Tulip Bowl

We used Pellon  Pelltex 2 Double Sided Fusible interfacing which gives a very rigid construction

So templates were cut, fabric fused and stitching commenced.

 Sewing around the shapes with a satin stitch (a challenge for some)

 Then adding the detail

 Annette was the only one who completed her bowl, but I did notice that she was the only one actually getting on with things and not chatting at every opportunity!!

Lynda is back with us and was making up a cushion for the Raffle. Hers is a Candlewicked panel

 This is lovely - has a real old fashioned look to it.

 Pat has finished her Wonky Log Cabin front and was deciding whether to put piping around it. The vote was Yes!

 Pam was on another Nancy Halvorsen block - guess which season....

 Gill, (recently retired from Knit & Sew) brought along a couple of boxes of excess stock for us to have a look through. She also brought a bag of balls of sock yarn, which there was a skirmish to purchase!

Some socks will be made but some of the ladies that belong to a little crochet group are making  "Road Trip Shawls" using this 4 ply yarn,(the pattern states Double knit) and they are working up beautifully.

 We may see more of these later!

Show and Tell

After visiting the Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham and I think that the most colourful purchase was made by Bridget.

This is a beautiful piece of hand painted silk that she will be making into a couple of scrumptious scarves.

 We have all had a very busy week and so were quite happy to sit and chat for a good part of the afternoon.
Angie has progressed (a bit too far) with her first pair of socks and has got ahead of teacher Jo

 Remember that Mrs Beal was making a Slice and Splice quilt for our community table? Well, all the blocks are complete and ready to put together

 Maureen has embarked on a piece of lace for a garter for her grandson's Fiancée.

The wedding is in two weeks!!!!!
 This may end up around the poor girls ankle!

 And was cutting out shapes to make another appliquéd one

 That will be like on that Sue had already done

 Our Chris ( her of the video tutorial promise) has leapt ahead and made a bunch of lovely purses for our sales table.

Ellen is back on form and is making some cute peg reindeer

 Shirley is adding the final beads to her smocked piece that will become a Christmas bauble

Through the Seasons

 This has been a labour of love and she has even made a block to add to the back.

Don't forget that next week we are making fabric bowls on our all day. 

 there will be several designs to choose from.
We have the stiffener at group so all you will need is fabric, threads , and a piece of card to cut out your templates.

 Meanwhile, back at group, Jo has been sewing her Hexagons into a charming little bowl - Tutorial can be found here
 She uses this to keep her ball of yarn from rolling around the floor and it is really pretty. I can see so many uses for one of these.

 Ellen was also sewing hexagons - but this is a much bigger project.

 Linda is still working on last years Christmas Challenge. But that is good. It means it WILL be finished ..... one day.

 Chris is on another roll ... this will be a Christmas wall hanging and I have it on her good authority that we will see this at our Exhibition

Bridget is adding embroidery to an appliqué cushion

Mrs Beal is working on an "community" exhibit to show all of the causes that our group has donated to and supported over the years. The trouble is that all of the quilts have been sent off.
Many years ago we made "Help For Hero's" quilts.
We used a Cut and slice method and Mrs Beal has a pile of lovely brushed cottons to make another sample.

hope she remembers which way they go round!

Three of our members belong to a small group that make a mini quilt each month. Anyone can join in. They get a pattern on the first of the month and reveal on the last day of the month.
