August 'all day'

Yes, today was our August 'all day' and Lesley had worked hard on a Table Centre for us all to try.  So out came the machines and Lesley changed into Miss Whiplash....we had just about sorted out which thread to use when she started giving instructions.....there was going to be no slacking today.  Actually the morning worked really well, and by the time Lesley had to leave we were all well on our way with our table centres.

Look at the concentration on that face

Background completed for one and the other has already got some detail
these had to leave early.... Hump!

A promise of return when we next meet

But by the end of the day we had a great gathering

All looking so different.

Well done ladies
Think we all had a great day Thanks Lesley.

The pattern for the topper can be found here

It was Angie and Carol's birthday, and Caroline's 40th wedding anniversary so it was a Feast day Yeah!!  We needed a sugar burst after working so hard.... well that's my excuse.

Congrats to all, and thank you so much

Of course not all of us need or want a table centre, so there is always something of interest going on in the room.

Another successful day all round I would say.

Don't forget there will be no meeting next week as its August Bank Holiday

Famine or Feast

This week it was famine in the cake department, but we had a feast of sewing going on.

There is always the Christmas elves beavering away....

and some Angels that work so hard towards our Quilt Show craft table....

Machining silk scarves and other bits a pieces

and of course we have our quilters.  Two are "machine finishing" the 'Helen Spence Beginner Sample quilt', and others happily hand quilting.

while June finished her baby quilt with the biggest smile

Complete with a bumble bee on the back of the quilt.  Well done June.

Alison was working on making a dress for her 'googly eye' doll that she is entering into a competition in September.

Love the blue for the dress, and that baby is keeping a close eye on her shoe and sock.

Colleen is working on the eighth of her nine redwork blocks

Phew! lots of work but very rewarding

Now I am not sure who this is for but it will keep some ears very cosy and warm

and if you remember it was Sue's birthday last week and her friend made her a bag as a birthday gift...

Lucky girl.
Well done ladies.

Next week is our 'all day' and there has been a change of plan.  We should have seen Helen Spence, but unfortunately we  have had to cancel and Helen will come (hopefully) nearer to Christmas, so instead we have a Table Centre to make.

The requirements are:
Background - 2 x 7 1/4" squares, cut both in half diagonally

16 x 5" squares (4 each from 4 fabrics) OR -  all cut from different fabrics
1 x 2 1/2 " (minimum) x 36" strip from 3 fabrics OR 16 x 2 1/2" x 6" scraps
3 x 1 1/2 " by  width of  fabric strips for binding
Wadding and backing (minimum) 27" Square -- this can be pieced.

Thread for piecing AND appliqué. plus  1/4 mt. Bondaweb

and of course your sewing machine etc.

Sure we will all have fun.
