Getting in the Groove - And a Couple of Reminders!

Still quite a few off again this week. This bug that has hit most households is really taking its toll!
 BUT ....

Lynda has finished the Heart Wreath that will adorn her bedroom wall.

but without a lavender filling...
Muriel has started the embroidery panels that will be inserted into a little girls jacket. The design comes from Faeiries in My Garden but was purchased from her LQS. This company has some exquisite designs. They come from Australia, but visit the Festival of Quilts in August each year,

pretty embroidery
Fran is also working on an embroidered patchwork piece. This is for her Grand-duaghter

This picture is a bit blurry - sorry, but Pauline was busy stitching a polar bear wrist rest thingy that you use when on the computer

Jan has finished a quilt for her Grandson.
simple but very effective
Pam was given this sewing roll up at Christmas. It has a little zipper pocket, pin cushion and needle-case that rolls up neatly for travel. Can you spot the swivel hook so it can be hooked onto something so as not to loose it.

is it our age that we keep misplacing things??
Bridget has finished one of her place mats.

Kim was busy stitching panels for an Irish Chain quilt

cool colours
And Diane was showing Maria how to assemble a piece of Somerset Folded patchwork.
the first rounds
Annette brought in her Owl quilt to show. Very colourful and made from a pattern in Patchwork & Quilting magazine some time ago. It has 3D owls and windmills

adds a bit of texture

In last Mondays post I told you of the shorts that Ellen is making for the Dress a Girl Charity  . Well June promptly went home and made another 8 pairs.
If you want a copy of the pattern you can download it, (just check when printing, you can increase to 110% and still fit and A4 page).
I will bring my copy into group next week and you can trace it out if you bring some paper.
lovely fabrics June!
Now this picture should have been posted months ago, but it disappeared into the ether and I suddenly came across it last night!
Does anyone else have the same problems with their computer? I know it must be because I save things without actually looking where they are going.
Anyway ...
Remember the Dorset buttons that Diana Turner showed us (many months ago). Well Ena showed her daughter, Lesley, how to make one, and so Lesley made one too. A.Really.Big.One.
She made it to hang on the wall - I think she use a curtain ring for the big one. We have put the coin so you can see the scale.
Well done Lesley
Next week is our Postcards day.

You will need your background fabrics ( 7" x5" ) and some scraps and Bondaweb for the appliqué. Threads to match and some pelmet vilene if you have some. Fusible is best, or more Bondaweb, but I will bring some double sided fusible if you don't have any.

Sewing machines are needed. Just a fun day of play.

Reminders

After the success of the Secret Santa gift giving last Christmas, we have been asked if we can do it all again Christmas 2015. This is just a "heads up" that we will be giving a Secret Santa gift ( preferably something handmade) .

Bottle Tops

We have a project in mind for a bit later in the year, and this requires milk bottle tops. Can we all please save our milk bottle tops (1,2 4 pinters are all the same size and it doesn't matter what colour milk you have - so to speak!) . Trust me - its a nice project and simple to make. You can also make this item with the plastic tops from Tetra Juice cartons, so you can save those too.  Keep them at home for the time being. I will let you no more early summertime.
