October 30th Exhibition Day 2

I visited the exhibition today, and thought I would add a couple more photos

this was before the crowds arrived ....... you think I am joking

Do you remember our Challenge at the end of  2010?  well, here are some of the blocks....don't they look good???  Once we get the green blocks added it will look stunning.  Shame it was next to the notice  board.

We had fun making boxes on one of our 'all days'

Remember the sampler quilts, well here is a sample as many of us have not finished .

Another 'all day' we made patchwork dresses,

These were all made by the Wednesday evening ladies,    aren't they great..I want I want

On the last 'all day' we made these little filigree trees.
The sales table...... lots here to buy.

It not just quilts that we make

The Bede House. Not where we normally meet but an architecturaly stunning building for a Exhibition

The exhibition ended with our cushion raffle.  There had been 65 cushions donated by our ladies, and lots of folk came back to claim their favourite.

Lots of ladies came to help clear up, and let me tell you, it was a lot quicker clearing everything away than it took to build the exhibition on Friday evening.

BIG THANKS  to all that helped over the last few days, you are too many to mention but you all know who you are.

STOP PRESS ! We have raised the fantastic amount of £2052.65. Well Done Ladies!!  £845.76 has been paid for young Matthews new bed. News on our other donation will follow shortly.

Some of the Wednesday Girls Christmas hangings! Don't they look great

Well done ladies! A fabulous first day to the Exhibition. We had over 200 paying visitors through the door. The compliments have been coming thick and fast. The sales table are doing a roaring trade as usual and the refreshments have been scrummy! Here is a little peek if you haven't made it so far. Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon.
A liitle bit of Christmas. See the folded Christmas trees that Ena showed us last week?
A sight to behold when you open the door!
Ann & Linda in the corner selling the Cushion raffle tickets. I think that there will be quite a few there at 4.00 tomorrow for the draw so they can pick their favourite.
If you haven't been yet, do try to come tomorrow. It's well worth the visit!
Thank you to Albert  & Ann for the photography. More tomorrow!!

October all day....better late than never

Better late than never as they say.....

On our last all day, we had the excitement of presenting the cheque to Matthew and his parents,  but we also had a lot of fun in the morning making filigree Christmas trees.  Ena showed us all how to behave (or end up in the corner with the Dunces cap on) and how to make stunning little trees...(unfortunately none of us finished on the day, but promise to show you next time).  I think we all had a great time cutting and stitching before taking them home to 'titivate' them up with jewels etc.

Ellen has to behave as she is in cockup corner where Ena reigns
Just look at the concentration of those faces
Who could beat a smile like that???
See, everyone is busy ....cutting, sewing, talking (not much of that at first) coffee drinking..... good day had by all
Poor Lesley could not join us as she had a bit of quilting and binding to do before a 2 o'clock deadline.
And last but not least....one quilt finished ready for our exhibition on the 29th ....phew!!!!! at least we know there is going to be one on show....

Monday 17 October 2011

We have been wondering what we are going to do with the funds made at our up coming Exhibition. We saw an article it the Evening Telegraph about Matthew Malloys fundraiser too buy him a specialist bed as he has to be tube fed through the night. They have raised over £4500 so far and needed a further £849 to reach their target. So we gave them a call and pledged the final amount.

This afternoon Matthew and his Mum & Dad came along to collect the cheque and a quilt to go with it. We thought on Friday afternoon that it would be nice for Matthew to have a snuggle quilt to put on his new bed , so on Saturday Lynda & Jo worked like trojans and pieced the quilt top and the backing and Lesley sat this morning and got it quilted and bound. Some going!

Monday 10 October 2011

At our meeting today the ladies brought along their cushions that will be raffled at our Exhibition in a couple of weeks. What a lovely selection! Ena had a boot full of  items for the sales table to take away and get priced up ready. That will keep her busy for quite a while. I managed to get a bit of sewing done for a change, thank you Lynda for the use of your machine!

Wednesday ladies, don't forget your cushions and sales items and the we will all be set.

The exhibition will be held at The Bede House, Market Square, Higham Ferrers (in St Mary's Church grounds) on Saturday 29th October 9.30 to 4.30 and Sunday 30th October 12 to 4.30 . Admission  is £2.50 (Accompanied Under 16's free) and we will have refreshments on sale too, (scrummy home made cakes).

Don't forget that the Farmers Market will be in Higham on the Saturday!  All Welcome. LB

Wednesday 5th October, and Diana Turner was with us again to show us how to complete Kanzsahi Folded Flowers.  Some of us got on better than others, but all had a good evening.

The photos show Rosemary getting to grips under Susan's watch full eye!  Pretty choice of fabric.

Pam, a visitor from Australia joined us for the evening and Hayley who has just moved to Higham and came for a coffee joined in and made a very pretty, neat flower.

Diana has offered to come along in the New Year to show us a couple of other techniques. Looking forward to that!! LB
